Meet Sandy Featherbottom, a fork-tailed sunbird with the wardrobe of a Vegas headliner and the ego to match. Iridescent? Please—she prefers "naturally fabulous." Sandy spends 90% of her day hovering near flowers, not for nectar, but to catch her reflection in the dewdrops. She's convinced her tail feathers are "structurally flirtatious" and refuses to fly in any direction that doesn't show off her good side. Her life motto? "If you're gonna be tiny, be tiny loudly." Other birds call her dramatic. Sandy calls them "the opening act.
"The fork-tailed sunbird is a bird in the family Nectariniidae. The species was first described by Robert Swinhoe in 1869. It is found in China, Hong Kong, Laos, and Vietnam. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests."
